"TRI-TO-WIN" / Garrett County Gran Fondo

June 26-27, 2010
Deep Creek Lake
McHenry, MD 21541

Overview:
Don’t miss this inaugural weekend of supported bike rides in scenic western-Maryland featuring a variety of extreme epic and recreational routes to satisfy every biker’s range of interests and ability.  The Deep Creek Lake area boasts the finest cycling in the mid-Atlantic region and the “WIN-THE-FIGHT” Gran Fondo provides twice the satisfaction in serving as a fundraiser for the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation.

From the full-day, cult-in-the-making, extreme “Diabolical Double” metric century (128-miles and 15,000’ climbing) with a “Diabolical” century (100-mile) escape route or 50-mile options on Saturday, June 26th, to the scenic and less-diabolical recreational 30 & 50-mile Deep Creek Lake area rides on Sunday – the courses are guaranteed to satisfy your cycling tastes.  A welcoming hospitality check-in on Friday and mountaintop barbecue on Saturday with plenty of camaraderie and take-home pleasure in goodie bags, raffle prizes, and special “Finisher” items – makes this an inaugural cycling rally event you don’t want to miss.

In the heart of the Appalachian recreational highlands, the region is absolutely stunning and ideal for biking.  The main staging area for the Gran Fondo will be the Adventure Sports Center International, home of the world’s only mountaintop whitewater and rafting adventure park perched above Deep Creek Lake and located just 90 minutes from Pittsburgh, and less than 3 hours from Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, and Baltimore, MD.

Designed as a charity ride to “WIN-THE-FIGHT” against melanoma, special accommodations and prizes can be earned by achieving various levels of fundraising - from customized “WIN-THE-FIGHT” bike jerseys to premier vacation rental property weekend accommodations – supporting the Gran Fondo’s fundraising goals can be very rewarding.

Lodging:
Deep Creek Lake is a vacation destination and lodging options are plentiful. Late June is still considered “shoulder” season, so lodging options will be widely available and rates reasonable. The primary options to choose from are lake and mountain house rental, the Wisp resort, area hotel/motels, or camping at Deep Creek Lake State Park
